Sample Sleep Schedule for a 10 Month Old

This is the latest in our social sleep consult series and is taken directly from one of our sleep consultations.  If we can ever help with your baby's sleep just give us a call or use #AskLMS on social media and we'll help as best we can.Before we begin, make sure Pediatrician:

  1. Rules out any physical or medical conditions that are affecting sleep habits.
  2. Gives the okay to begin sleep training, meaning about 8-10 hours of uninterrupted sleep.

6:30                    wake up, milk 7/8 oz., diaper change, get dressed

7:30                   breakfast of solids: oatmeal + fruit. Give as much as he wants, wash down with milk

8:30 – 9:00         Play; give a snack if he is receptive

9:00 –9:15          quieter play and wind down activities such a cuddling and books. Look for sleepy signs which can be eye rubbing, moving his head from side to side.   He should be in the crib, nice and sleepy after you see 1 yawn and down for nap at 9:30. Until Jude is sleeping through the night there’s no need to force naps. It’s perfectly fine to have him nap in the car, stroller, wearing him in a baby carrier etc.

9:30-10:30           nap (longer than 10:30 is absolutely fine)

  

10:30/11:00          wake up milk/bottle 7/8 oz

12:00                    solids: grain + veg, ***top off with milk

12:30 – 1:30         Play; give a snack if he wishes

1:30 – 2:00           wind down for nap

2ish – 3:30           nap

 

3:30                     milk/bottle, 7/8 ounces

3:30 – 5:30          quiet play                              

5:30                     dinner of solids

6:45 – 7:30           final bottle 7/8 oz, diaper change, books and in bed at 7:30                 \

Things to remember:

THIS IS JUST AN EXAMPLE. It is FINE if your schedule differs, but the goal is to have defined eating times to set the stage for long sleep overnight.

We are just using 6:30am as a starting point. If J wakes earlier or later, simply adjust the schedule accordingly. For example, if he wakes at 7:00a, adjust this schedule forward 1/2 hour.

You are aiming for about 28 oz of milk per day as well as 3 meals of solids (which you already do).

We are teaching baby to have a start and an end to the day rather than have a 24 hour schedule
